We’re changing up our pace this week to give you a little more insight into MackWP and how we got our start.
As a kid, I was fascinated with business and marketing. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) stole my heart with their shows and commercials. My friends and I owned everything you could imagine from TMNT (How I wish I still had those toys!). I loved the Christmas Coca-Cola commercials, Budweiser frogs, Wendy’s “Where’s the beef?” Lady and more! I yearned to know how it all worked.
With that interest, we made business and marketing our focuses on undergrad, graduating majoring in Business Management, and minoring in Marketing. After getting into the business world, we decided to go back to school for our masters, accomplishing our master’s degree in Organizational Studies focused on Leadership.
We’ve been using social media since it’s launch and have evolved with it. During and after our college education, we’ve worked in a few different areas from customer service to sales. Marketing is an aspect of all that we do and we soaked in the experience and knowledge.
After we moved to Florida and started to build a network, we began to offer marketing services on a freelance basis. We were still working in corporate America and weren’t ready to take the plunge into launching our own marketing business just yet.
Through word of mouth, we picked up new gigs and clients through the months and years. We did everything from customizing a CRM for a client to email marketing and managing social media for another client. Jobs were more on the “gig” level while we hadn’t made MackWP Marketing the focus quite yet.
We stayed current with content marketing through it all. We gained certifications in Social Media Marketing, Hootsuite, and Hubspot. We are part of the “LinkedIn Advisors” which is a group of active LinkedIn users that were invited to partake in LinkedIn Advisors. We answer questions and provide feedback on products that LinkedIn is looking into launching or not.
Back to taking the leap into being an entrepreneur and diving fully into MackWP Marketing. If nothing else, 2020 has been a year of challenge and change. When COVID first had a large impact on society, all elective surgeries were canceled and one member is our family was laid off. We decided it was best for the family to move back to Pennsylvania where most of our family lives.
This is when MackWP Marketing really gained traction! It was time to take the leap and make our marketing business our primary focus. We gained a few new clients in the Pinellas area prior to making the move, a few more after. We do our work remotely which affords us the ability to work from anywhere for a business located anywhere! We’re focused in two areas; Tampa Bay, Florida, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We are working with a few clients in other areas and are happy to work with you, no matter where you’re located!
We belong to a Chamber of Commerce and a few networking groups. We’re always looking to grow our network so please feel free to reach out. We’re experienced in Content Marketing, social media marketing and management, email marketing, blogs/articles, and SEO optimization. We also offer website development, Leadership Coaching, and Business Consultation.
